SIBU (March 19): Bawang Assan residents suffering from water shortage in the past few months received the first batch of over 600 water tanks yesterday.
Presenting the water tanks from the state government, Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said the recipients comprised those still facing water supply issues in their area.
“In the past few months, Bawang Assan constituents, particularly those in far away areas like lower Batang Igan and even Pasai, suffered from water supply shortage.
“Either there is low pressure such that they have to wait until midnight to collect water or sometimes no water at all. This has caused a lot of inconvenience to the people.
“As their elected representative, I sympathise with them. So, I appealed to the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and they provided over 600 water tanks,” he told reporters after presenting the assistance at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan office here.
Wong said some of the water tanks are for residents in lower Batang Rajang and the rest are for those in Pasai Siong, Bawang Assan and Sungai Bidut.
